Happy Sunday!
Well here I sit, it's
Sunday, and a lazy day indeed. I am sitting at the kitchen table writing
this letter. As I look out the big picture window in the kitchen I can still
see our snow on the ground. Been there a long time and it's dirty and nasty.
Wish it would just melt away already. Supposed to get more on Tuesday
and Wednesday!
Thought I would get
the letter done and the site updates uploaded a little early for a change!
Bills cousin Brian just left. He hasn't made a visit over to our house for
years. It was nice to see him. He had his dog with him. He calls her
Princess and she is a brown Jack Russell. Rosie was not pleased to see her.
Rosie is not social with other doggies. I think it's because she is so
spoiled, but I don't know for sure why she is that way! She just is! She is
laying with Daddy in the recliner now all happy that Princess is on her way
back home!
I made a lasagna for
dinner today, been a while since I made one of those. It was really yummy, a
nice change of pace. No dessert today, now that is a switch for us. Remember
when I was talking about seeing Dr B this week and how I was going to get a
licken from him verbally? Well the visit went better than I expected. My
bloodwork was really good, my fasting 3 month blood sugar test came back at
95, which is great! And my cholesterol came back at 134, which was also
great. He was pleased with it all. I did gain 15 pounds since last year and
he wasn't happy bout that, he didn't yell at me but does want me to work a
little harder at getting some weight off, which I promised I would try to
do. All in all I had a good physical, and thank God it's over for another
year. Just have to get blood tested again in July and that's it. Don't know
why I get so nervous when it's physical time. Just glad it's over and
everything is fine! Bill had his yearly physical as well and all is good too
with him! I am trying to change a few things around here, nutritionally
wise. Making different choices and watching my serving sizes. Trying to
incorporate more veggies, less carbs and hopefully some exercise.
Pretty soon it will be
camping season again! One more month and they open up Glacier Hills so we
will be able to go out and visit the camper and start to get things back in
order for summer. We will probably wait till May 1 since it's been so cold
lately. I do want to go out in April after they open it up and get some
grass seed planted and going before we start going out there on a regular
basis. Last year the grass was a little sparse in places. We have plenty of
time before we will be ready to spend any weekends out there. In the
meantime I want to get some grass going and in May plant some flowers.
My Granddaughter Katie
called me this week and wanted me to help her with a school project. She
wanted to make a mini quilt! I was very happy to help her and she did so
well. She even quilted it on the sewing machine! This was her idea and
design and here is a picture of her finished very first quilt she made all
by herself....with a little Grandma guidance of course! She traced pictures
onto muslin then she colored the pictures with crayons and set them with a
hot iron. I had strips from a strip swap I was in a long time ago, already
cut and all. She was nervous but did so well! She said she really liked the
idea of creating something like that! Lets hope she gets hooked! She is so
proud of her project. Click here to see it:
The new block for the
Quilt Barns block of the month series is up and ready for downloading for
you. I have received a bunch of barn blocks and it's been great to be able
to post them all. You will have to go to the
Quilt Barns Gallery page and take a look at all the pretty barn blocks
we have there!!
Speaking of the Quilt
Barns.....I got to thinking how cute it would be to put on some animal
appliqués on and about the quilt in places and I got some really cute panels
on Ebay that I plan to use for appliqués on my Barn Quilt.
Click on this link
here if you want to see them. I hope that they will work and be the
right size. I will be getting them in the mail soon I hope! I will let you
know how it goes!
I have added 17 new
links to the
Favorite Quilting Links pages and 15 new links to the
Crafty Links
pages. You will have to go and take a peek at the new projects. I have also
added a few more block of the month links below that I have come across this
week. Between the two pages there are a total of 2538 links with some kind
of free project for you to make! OMG!! And some of the older pages update on
a regular basis so it pays to re-visit some of those pages again and again!
Oh and by the way.....the link of the week this week is a little different.
It is in Dutch so you may want Google to translate for you, but they close
the site down on Sunday because Sunday is a day of rest..... and so if you
can't get to any of their pages today then wait till tomorrow and you won't
have any problems then! There are a bunch of free patterns on this site and
it will be well worth the wait!
I think that I will
take a day this week and clean my sewing machine out. Last time I used it, I
noticed that I have a bunch of fuzzies in and under the bobbin area and
everywhere. It's been awhile since I did that and I am sure I am way past
due. I also think it is time to clean out my fabric closet and go through
all my stuff. There is a lot of fabric in there I probably won't use that I
bought a long time ago. I might make a donation to the local Council on
Aging building of some fabric and old quilt magazines for the older ladies
that quilt. My closet is so full of all kinds of stuff I need to get rid of.
I am such a pack rat! If I try to save it all for the garage sales in May, I
won't make any money from it, I would rather donate it to a good cause. I
need to learn the words.....do you really need that whenever I go shopping!!
Well I guess that is
it for the updates, I should go ahead and close out this letter for now. Gee
it looks like March is going to come in like a lamb....almost afraid to see
what happens at the end of the month when it's now supposed to go out like a
lion...yikes!! Sometimes I think I would rather have it come in like a
lion so it will go out quietly like a little lamb and then we can have
Spring!! Have a great week this week and I will talk to you all next Sunday!
From my sewing room to yours,
Becky

Recipe of The Week
1 package
puff pastry dough
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
Allow package of puff pastry dough to defrost according to
manufacturer’s directions.
Very
important to follow the defrosting directions according to
the puff pastry directions!
Preheat oven
to 350 degrees.
In a small
bowl combine together the sugar and the cinnamon, mix well.
Open puff
pastry dough and use one sheet and unfold onto a clean counter. Unfold
the dough to where the long side is towards you, puff pastry dough is
rectangular.
Spray puff pastry dough with non-stick spray (do this so the cinnamon
and sugar mixture will stick to the dough), and sprinkle on 2
tablespoons of the cinnamon sugar mixer on the dough.
Using a pizza
cutter cut the dough in half horizontally. Cut the dough vertically into
10 pieces. Twist each cut piece of dough 2 to 3 times before placing
onto the parchment covered cookie sheet. Sprinkle an additional 1
tablespoon of the cinnamon sugar mixer.
Repeat process with other pastry sheet. Bake sticks for approximately 15
minutes or until desired toasted color.
Cinnabon Icing
1/2 pound Margarine
1/2 pound cream cheese
1 pound powdered sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Allow margarine and cream cheese to reach room temperature. Beat cream
cheese and margarine together in a bowl with a mixer. Slowly add in all
powdered sugar and lemon juice, and vanilla extract and mix well.
Serve on the side with Cinnabon Stick.
